Peter Stankovič is an Assistant Professor (since 2001) in the Department of Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Social Sicences of the University of Ljubljana. After his studies in Sociology at the Central European University (Prague College) and the University of Lancaster (BA, 1994, MA 1995), became a PhD student at the University of Ljubljana, from which he received his PhD in Sociology in 2000 for his Social Structure and Human Agency: What Synthesis of Two Approaches Brings to Sociological Theory?
His main research interests concern identities, nationalism and various segments of popular culture, primarily popular music, film and sport. His current research project is entitled ‘Fužine Food Cultures: Food and Cultural Integration of Immigrants from Other Former Yugoslavian republics in Slovenia.
Peter Stankovič teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules at the University of Ljubljana, including 'Introduction to Cultural Studies', 'Film Studies', 'Popular Music and Media' and Cultural Theory. In addition, he is a lecturer in Slovenian film at the Alpen-Adria Universität in Klagenfurt, Austria (course 'Slovenian Film') as well as a lecturer in popular Culture at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Primorska, Slovenia.
Peter Stankovič served as Head of the Department of Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana (2003-2005) and he is a current member of the Editorial Board of Teorija in Praksa journal.
