Master History in Society - Specialisation Global History and International Relations

Career perspectives

Your master specialisation Global History and International Relations from Erasmus University Rotterdam will jumpstart your career as a historian or researcher. But you can also work as a manager or researcher at cultural institutions, government authorities, consultancies, archives or in the media. Historians are often hired as a journalist, or as a policy maker for local or international organizations, museums and heritage institutions. Because historians from Rotterdam will know how to relate contemporary social and political issues to long term developments, they will be able to produce short or long term visions on international processes. A quality that is much sought-after in different jobs, companies and fields.

Would you like to become a researcher, or teach at a university? In your specialisation in the Master History of Society you will acquire strong analytical skills, which makes you a professional who is able to conduct research independently. The specialisation Global History and International Relations provides talented students an excellent basis for pursuing a PhD degree.

Would you love to share your passion for history and pass on your knowledge of the past? And do you also speak Dutch? After your Master History of Society you can enrol for a Master in Teaching History at Leiden University, Utrecht University, or University of Amsterdam to gain your teaching certification.  Perhaps you’ll be soon teaching history then.

Job Market Orientations Days

During your Master you will already work towards a future in the labour market as a historian. By carrying out an optional research internship within an institution you can already gain experience as a historian in the labour market. Furthermore, the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication organises yearly Job Market Orientation days, where you can meet graduates as well as the companies and/or institutions where they are currently employed.
