Biographical Note

Pieter de Bruijn (1986) studied history at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He graduated with honours degree in 2009 and wrote a master thesis on museums of national history in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, ca. 1800-2008. During his master’s he specialised in the field of historical culture and cultural heritage theory.
While doing his bachelor’s degree, he also successfully completed the Erasmus Honours Programme. This extracurricular programme, entitled Beyond borders, is designed for a select group of students who are interested in looking beyond the boundaries of their own discipline.

In August 2009, he started a PhD project on heritage and history curriculum practices in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. This project is part of the research programme Heritage education, plurality of narratives and shared historical knowledge, funded by the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research / NWO. Supervisors: prof.dr. M.C.R. Grever and prof.dr. C.A.M. van Boxtel.
His main research interests include heritage education and cultural heritage, historical culture and historical consciousness, museums of national history.
