Stijn Joye PhD

Biographical Note

Stijn Joye joined the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus University in November 2010. He works a lecturer for the Master's programme in Media and Journalism. Joye received his PhD degree in Communication in May 2010 (Ghent University, Belgium). His doctoral dissertation is entitled The media(de)construction of disasters. A multimethodological and longitudinal analysis of the Flemish news coverage of national and international disasters.

His research focuses on international news, with a special interest in disaster coverage and the representation of suffering. Joye has published peer-reviewed articles in Discourse & Society, Javnost-The Public, Journal of International Communication, Scope and Tijdschrift voor Communicatiewetenschap as well as chapters in national and international readers.
