Biographical Note

Sharon van Noord is a lecturer and PhD candidate in the Department of Media & Communication. She conducts her PhD research within the framework of the research project Cultural Classification Systems in Transition (CCST) and the research project Popular Music Heritage, Cultural Memory and Cultural Identity (POPID).

Sharon studied Arts and Culture Studies (BA) and Media Studies (MA) at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. After graduating in 2008, she started working as a teaching and research assistant in the Department of Media & Communication. At the same time she started her Research master’s degree (MSc) in Sociology of Culture, Media and the Arts (EUR), which she completed cum laude in 2011. Her fields of interest include popular culture, new media, cultural participation and cultural policy.

In 2011-2012 she will be teaching the following courses: Introduction to Statistical Analysis, Key Concepts in the Social Sciences, Communication as a Social Force and New Media, Culture and Entertainment.
