Biographical Note

Louis Zweers has been working for the MA program in Media and Journalism Studies at Erasmus University since 2003, as a specialized lecturer in the field of photo journalism. He studied Art History at the University Leiden.

Louis Zweers is a former photo editor of Financial Economical Magazine and the national daily de Volkskrant, while he also worked as a history teacher at the Amsterdam Spinoza Lyceum. From 1992 to 1995, he lectured photo journalism at the Academy for Journalism in Tilburg. He has been working as an independent researcher and publicist since 1992. Since then, he has published more than 100 articles in specialist magazines, newspapers and weekly magazines and 16 monographs, while he also worked as a researcher for various documentary TV shows produced by the NPS.

Since 1992, Louis Zweers has organized 14 exhibitions. Currently, he is preparing a retrospective on the life and work of the German-Jewish photographer and journalist Kurt Lubinski for the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam, which will open in March 2008. In 2003, he was the guardian of the exhibition Alphons Hustinx, fotograaf en wereldreiziger in the Rotterdam World Museum, while in 2005, he organized a retrospective exhibition on the life and work of the founding father of Dutch photo journalism, Willem van der Poll, in the photomuseum of The Hague.
