• 1988-1994: co-editor of the six-volume Geschiedenis van de techniek in de negentiende eeuw (Zutphen 1988-1994)

• 1989-1994: co-editor of the journal on the history of science and technology Tractrix

• 1993-1994: visiting lecturer at the Faculty of History at the University of Bielefeld

• 1999-2003: Postdoc fellow at the Stichting Historie der Techniek, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. Project: patterns of technical and social development in the Netherlands in the twentieth century (part of the production of the seven-volume Techniek in Nederland in de twintigste eeuw).

• 2002-2009. Chair of the technology network of the European Social Science History Conference, together with prof. Thomas Misa of the Charles Babbage Institute at the University of Minnesota.
