Biographical Note

Simeng Chang is a PhD candidate in the Department of Arts and Culture studies at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Since May 2014, she has been working on a Marie Curie IAPP project entitled “Global contemporary art market: the intrinsic and sociological components of financial and artistic value of artworks”.

Simeng was born and raised in Guangdong, China. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Management from Sun Yat-sen University, China and a master’s degree in Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship from Erasmus University Rotterdam.  

Her PhD research mainly focuses on detecting the relationship between art price and the artist reputation, known as the attention from the main art world players, within contemporary art through a quantitative approach. Along with the research project, her research interests include artwork pricing, artist ranking and quantifying reputation.
