Emily Mannheimer PhD

Emily Mannheimer is a PhD candidate at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam. She is working on the 'Vital Cities and Citizens' initiative to understand how social imaginings of cities' identities are created in connection with the tourism industry. 

Emily obtained a MSc in cultural anthropology from Utrecht University. Her thesis examined territorial negotiations and placemaking practices between Catholic and Protestant residents in Belfast. She also has a BA in international development from Portland State University where she specialized in the Middle East and studied Arabic at the American University in Cairo.

Her main research interests include place and identity formation in divided cities and (post)conflict countries.
