Apoorva Nanjangud MSc
Apoorva Nanjangud is a PhD candidate and lecturer in the Department of Arts and Culture Studies at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her PhD research is part of the ERC-funded project ‘Worlds of Imagination’ headed and supervised by Prof. Stijn Reijnders. Interspersing the lines of Humanities and Social Sciences, her subproject analyses the phenomenon of film tourism in India. The preliminary goal of her PhD project is to unravel the complex interplay that affects tourism flows induced by popular Hindi cinema. Bearing a qualitative, empirical approach for her research, she aims to understand why and how tourism traverses in the realm of popular film discourses, policy changes, and tourist experience; with a strict non-Western perspective.
Apoorva holds a Research Masters in Communication Studies, from University of Pune, India. Her Master thesis was an inquiry into the changing media representation of Indian cuisine, under a postmodern light. Besides that, she also studied the uses and gratifications of ephemeral communication platforms amongst the Mumbai youth. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media, Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai University.
Her research interests include media representation, power play, effect/audience studies, ephemeral communication and persuasion.
Besides academia, Apoorva is passionate about traveling.
