Dr. Koen Panis
Koen Panis joined the Department of Media & Communication at the Erasmus University Rotterdam in the autumn of 2014. He teaches the seminar Television in Society in the Master Media & Journalistiek and Master Media, Culture & Society.
Furthermore, he teaches courses on radio and television at the University of Antwerp (since 2012) and on (quantitative) research methods at the Thomas More University College Mechelen (since 2014) and at the University of Antwerp (in 2013).
Koen obtained his doctoral degree in Communication Studies at the University of Antwerp (2013) with a doctoral thesis entitled “Celebrities' societal engagement: A quantitative analysis of non-profit organisations' motivations, public perception and media coverage”. His research interests include popular culture in general, and celebrity studies and television studies in particular. To investigate these topics, he mainly uses quantitative research methods such as surveys, experiments and large scale quantitative content analyses. He has published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Journalism Studies, Communications: The European Journal of Communication Research, Javnost – The Public, Tijdschrift voor Communicatiewetenschap and Celebrity Studies.
