Hilde Sennema holds a Master of Arts in the history of architecture and urban planning. As an independent researcher she broadened her scope to urban history, specialising in post-war urban development. In 2015, she started her PhD research (under the supervision of Paul van de Laar) on the role of transnationally oriented maritime elites in the urban transformation of Rotterdam and Liverpool (1945 - 1975). Her research is funded by the J.E. Jurriaanse Foundation.
