Biographical Note

Abby Waysdorf is a PhD candidate and lecturer in the Department of Arts and Culture Studies at Erasmus University, Rotterdam. Her research is part of the NWO-funded project Locating Imagination: An Interdisciplinary Perspective on Literary, Film and Music Tourism, where she focuses on film and television tourism, specifically what “being there” means in a mediated age.

Abby was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Denver, Colorado. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington, Seattle, and a Master’s Degree (cum laude) in Media and Performance Studies from Utrecht University. Her MA thesis focused on football (soccer) fanfiction and the changing nature of football’s relationship to the media and media culture(s).

Aside from Locating Imagination, her research interests include fan studies, sports and media, and the relationship between reality and imagination.
