Mart Willekens, PhD


Biographical Note

Mart Willekens is lecturer at the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus University, where among other things, he teaches the course ‘Research Design’. He studied sociology at The Catholic University of Leuven and obtained his PhD entitled ‘Providers and Carriers of Capital: Four Studies on Men and Women in the Cultural Capital Paradigm’ at Ghent University in 2015. His main interests include social stratification research, cultural participation and sociology of the family and he has published research on these themes in Poetics, Cultural Sociology and Sociological Perspectives. He also co-authored a number of chapters on cultural participation in a book published by the Policy Research Centre Culture (Flanders) entitled ‘Participatie in Vlaanderen 2014’. Currently, his research focuses on the audience of musical concerts and musical preferences.
