Min Xu MA
Min Xu is a PhD candidate at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. Since September 2015, she has been working on a project entitled ‘Film Tourism in China’ (supervised by Prof. Stijn Reijnders). She graduated from University of York, UK with a Master’s Degree in Cinema, Television and Society in 2010.
Min was born and grew up in Shanghai, China. Before moving to the Netherlands, she spent nearly five years working in media and for Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She has published a paper on cognitive film theory in a Chinese journal as well as other journalistic pieces and reviews.
Her PhD research project analyzes the development and mechanism of China’s film tourism by delving into the phenomenon of people traveling to places because of their fondness for a movie or TV series. Setting the geographical scope in Mainland China, the project discusses the motivations, practices and attitudes of both domestic and international tourists, together with local communities, organizations and travel agencies.
